Whitehall Pool
In the summer of 2021, the Whitehall Borough pool, which dated back to 1964, was demolished. The following spring, work began on the all-new pool facility. Gateway Engineers provided full design and engineering support.
The previous pool featured a competition style design. This was replaced with an activity pool, featuring a zero-entry walk-in with spray features and bubblers, a multi-purpose section that allows for lap swimming, and a deep end that includes a climbing wall, diving board, and double-flume slide. Additional elements of the project included renovations to the existing bathhouse and the construction of four (4) new structures:
- Two-story lifeguard and storage building
- Dedicated pump room to house the pool mechanicals
- Ticket booth
- Concession stand
Gateway’s design provided ADA accessibility for the entire site, including an all-new switchback ramp from street level. Other design features included decorative concrete, a shade sail over the small wading pool, rain gardens with plantings for stormwater management, site retaining walls, sunbathing areas, new safety guiderail and fencing, and LED lighting.
Serving as Whitehall Borough’s municipal engineer for over 65 years, Gateway has exceptional knowledge of the community, its regulatory codes, and borough administration. Gateway provided the entire pool design team, utilizing multiple practice areas to manage this project from its infancy through construction. The communication, coordination, and collaboration of the entire project team streamlined responses, reduced lag time, and provided the Borough with ongoing feedback and status reporting throughout the entire project lifecycle.
